The EPC Contractor VALORIZA WATER Australia was awarded the contract for executing the new Potable Water Treatment Plant of Newman for the mining Company BHP Billiton in the Northwest of Australia.

The new plant would supply water to the population of Newman and would be able to treat an average quantity of 16,500 m3/day. This would cover the requirements associated with the mining company and a population of 5,500 inhabitants.

The Scope of Work included the Design, Development, Implementation, Testing, and Commissioning of the entire Plant Control System as well as the manufacturing of the local distribution board, the supply of this equipment to site, tests, assembly, documentation, shipping preparation and shipping to site.

Some of the project’s important highlights were:

  • More than 5,000 hours of commissioning support with 0 safety incidents and coordination of 24/7 shifts towards the final stages of the project.
  • Compliance to both Water Corporation’s and BHP’s strict standards.
  • Management of >3,000 I/O.
  • Fully autonomous water production without local operator intervention.
  • Management of the project in a remote location
