Advanced Water Recycling Plant

CH2M Hill and Thiess (CHT Joint Venture) were awarded the design and construction of the Beenyup Advanced Water Recycling Plant (BAWRP) in alliance with Water Corporation and nominated SPIN AU in March 2015 as the subcontractor to undertake the Plant Control System (PCS) integration including supply of hardware and design services.

The project was for the plant to produce 14 GL/year of recycled water. The BAWRP included the following unit process areas:  Feed Water Pump Station; Coarse Screens; UF Feed Pump Station & Fine Screens; UF including UF Backwash, CIP, and waste neutralisation; Reverse Osmosis (RO), CIP, and waste neutralisation; Degassing and UV Feed Pumps; UV Disinfection; Recycled Water Transfer Pumps and Chemical Systems.

Some of the key responsibilities as part of the scope of works included:

  • Programming and configuration of SCADA, Historian and engineering servers.
  • Programming of PLCs and RTU.
  • Networking equipment
  • Supply of electrical panels

A few of the project’s important highlights were:

  • More than 10,000 hours of commissioning support with 0 safety incidents.
  • More than 1,500 process objects treated
  • Management of >10,000 I/O
  • Automation of all reporting services, including excel file generation, production data through automatic emails and operations and maintenance of relevant data collection.
  • Integration and communication with Beenyup Waste Water Treatment Plant.
